Memory is not a camera that records everything equally. It strengthens what we retrieve, connect, repeat and use—which is why the way we study matters as much as the time we spend studying.

A student reads the same page three times, closes the book and struggles to explain what it said. A few minutes later, a song begins playing and the student sings every word without trying. That can feel unfair, but it reveals something important about memory.
Memory is not a simple storage box that accepts everything equally. The brain pays attention to meaning, repetition, emotion, patterns and active use. A song often receives all of those advantages. Rushed study material may receive almost none.

Return later
